Adolescent Pregnancy Care
The St. Luke Hospitals Adolescent Obstetrics and Gynecology Center was established to care for the special medical, nutritional, educational and emotional needs of pregnant teens up to age 17. A team of health care providers who have experience helping adolescents will provide education, care and support in a comfortable, confidential setting. The center is located at both St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas and St. Luke Hospital West in Florence so that participants can receive care without disrupting their school schedule. The Adolescent OB/Gyn Center is for adolescents only, but teens are encouraged to bring the baby's father, a friend or supportive family member.
Adolescent Gyn Care
An adolescent's first pelvic exam can be a frightening experience. That is one of the reasons why the Adolescent OB/Gyn Center was established. We provide care from a team of staff sensitive to adolescents and the gynecological issues they face.
Education
Counselors will provide open, and often informal, group discussions and classes regarding:
Sexual health topics such as birth control, abstinence and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Gynecologic and women's health diseases and conditions, such as gynecologic cancer, breast cancer, uterine fibroids and endometriosis, along with the recommended exams and screenings for prevention.
Prenatal, obstetric, childbirth and newborn care for mother and baby both during and after pregnancy.
Nutritional health, including prenatal nutrition, but also discussing common eating disorders and how to develop healthy eating habits for life.
Care
The St. Luke Hospitals Physicians for Women offer convenient, high-quality obstetric and gynecologic care for women in Northern Kentucky. Through the Adolescent OB/Gyn Center, participants can arrange appointments with a physician or nurse practitioner that fit their school and work schedules. A nurse practitioner is also available on-call 24 hours a day to answer any urgent medical questions.
Support
Social workers at The St. Luke Hospitals provide confidential counseling in dealing with parenthood, school, jobs and family. Offering referrals for insurance assistance and other medical services and community resources for both mother and child, our counselors can help teens prepare and plan for their own future as well as their baby's.
