KY-1 DMAT
Deployment history
- KY – 1 DMAT formed in 1985 with a group of employees and physicians of The St. Luke Hospitals. The team now includes members from other Health Alliance Hospitals as well as tri-state health professionals.
- The team is sponsored by The St. Luke Hospitals by Memorandum of Agreement with the U.S. Public Health Service Department of Health and Human Services and is a part of the National Disaster Medical System.
- The team of approximately 80 members will deploy 32 to 35 members when requested by the U.S. Public Health Service and functions under Emergency Support No.8 of the Federal Response Plan (Stafford Act, P.L. 93–288, as amended).
- The DMAT provides temporary emergency medical and dental care to victims of disasters, as well as primary care, public health measures and disease surveillance, 24 hours a day while in a disaster area.
- The team is self-contained and functions independently in the field. Unit supplies include tents, electrical generators, water purification equipment, radio equipment, etc., which are maintained and operated by the logistics section. The team deploys with six to seven tons of medical supplies and equipment.
- The team is a resource to the Greater Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport, the Kentucky Disaster and Emergency Services, and other tri-state emergency agencies.
- In the event that disaster or military casualties are evacuated from stricken areas to Greater Cincinnati area hospitals, the DMAT team functions as a patient reception team to receive the casualties at the Greater Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport.
