Neurotherapy
St. Elizabeth Holistic Health Center is pleased to offer Neurotherapy as a new service.
Neurotherapy is also called “EEG Biofeedback” and “Neurofeedback”. Like other forms of biofeedback, neurotherapy training uses monitoring devices to provide moment-to-moment information to an individual on the state of his/her physiological functioning. The characteristic that distinguishes neurotherapy training from other biofeedback is a focus on the central nervous system and brain. Neurotherapy training has its foundations in basic and applied neuroscience as well as data-based clinical practice. It takes into account behavioral, cognitive, and subjective aspects as well as brain activity and is accepted by the American Psychological Association as an evidence-based intervention.
Prior to the first neurotherapy session, the client is evaluated by the Holistic Health physician so that all facets of symptoms can be taken into consideration to assure the most appropriate intervention is prescribed. During neurotherapy training, sensors are placed on the scalp and then connected to sensitive electronics and computer software that detect, amplify, and record specific brain activity. The training is painless, and the client is alert and in control at all times. Adult clients often describe the experience as “fascinating”, and “surprisingly relaxing”. Children consistently describe the experience as “fun”, and “just like a video game”.
Neurotherapy training has been found to be a successful intervention in modifying/improving attention deficit disorder, chronic pain, autistic behaviors, headache/migraine, depression, anxiety, addictions, and sleep problems. Also, it has been applied effectively in meeting educational goals such as resolving reading and math disabilities. Moreover, it has been used to help maximize the performance of athletes, artists, and executives. Lasting positive changes have been demonstrated.
