Community Resource Guides

The CARE Program is committed to increasing the health and wellness of individuals in Northern Kentucky. As part of this initiative, we are developing community resource guides for the eight counties of the Northern Kentucky and Three Rivers District Health Departments. These guides below will provide you with low- or no-cost ideas for exercise and wellness in your own neighborhood.

One of the best ways to decrease your risk of heart disease is to exercise regularly. Even a moderate amount of exercise can improve your physical fitness and lead to health benefits. Some benefits of exercising include:

  • Reduced stress
  • Better sleep
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Stronger bones
  • Reduced risk of diabetes, heart disease, and other illnesses

Benefits of walking:

  • Requires no special equipment except good shoes
  • Can be done almost anywhere
  • Can be done alone or with friends
  • It’s free

In this section, you will find information on local parks, fitness centers, and places to walk. Some tips to help you with your own exercise program:

  • Walk or exercise with someone — it can help you stay motivated.
  • When walking, carry a cell phone.
  • Water, water, water…drink plenty before, during, and after exercising.
  • Stretch before, during, and after exercising. This helps to prevent injury.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and good shoes for your exercise activity.
  • When walking in the summer months, wear sunscreen and/or a hat.
