About us
At The St. Luke Hospitals, we understand the fear and apprehension young patients and their parents face during hospitalization. We work with physicians and parents to provide a safe, homelike atmosphere to comfort children and families.
While a child is hospitalized, one parent or adult representative may stay with him or her 24 hours a day. Sleep accommodations are provided for the adult. Other friends and relatives may visit from 1 to 8 p.m. Visiting hours for other family and friends are flexible. Please check with the nursing staff if you have any questions.
Our nurses and staff help put families at ease. Nurses are trained to help parents understand and accept their child’s illness. St. Luke also provides information about the future health and welfare of the child.
The eight-bed pediatric department is located on 4-North at St. Luke West. It is specially designed to provide comprehensive care for children from birth to age 18.
Specially equipped for emergencies
The emergency departments of The St. Luke Hospitals are equipped to manage critical pediatric situations. Physicians and nurses certified in pediatric advanced life support (PALS) are available in the emergency departments around the clock to care for critically ill or injured children. All St. Luke emergency physicians are residency-trained and board-certified or eligible in emergency medicine.
The pediatric departments, post anesthesia care units (recovery room) and other appropriate departments are also staffed by PALS-certified physicians and nurses.
Pediatric physician care
Board-certified pediatricians on staff at The St. Luke Hospitals practice throughout the Northern Kentucky community and at the St. Luke Pediatric Centers. The Pediatric Centers are conveniently located in the Bellevue Medical Arts Building and at St. Luke West in Florence. St. Luke pediatricians provide quality pediatric care for your child’s health.
Expert pediatric surgery
Pediatric surgery is expertly performed at the St. Luke surgery suites by highly skilled, board-certified surgeons. The comfort of family is also emphasized here, where parents may stay with their children prior to surgery and through the recovery room period.*
Board-certified anesthesiologists with pediatric training take special care of our young patients. Parents are again present as children recover in the post-anesthesia care unit. The child is further comforted by specially trained nurses and health care professionals.
*At surgeon’s discretion.
Children’s Advocacy Center
The Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of The St. Luke Hospitals provides a child-friendly environment for the prevention, evaluation and treatment of child sexual and physical abuse. In addition, the CAC provides referral and community education.
The mission of the CAC is to offer a coordinated, multidisciplinary intervention team that includes child protective service workers, law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, mental health workers, physicians and educators working together for the child and his or her family's best interests.
