Welcome to the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy (PT/OT) department of St. Elizabeth Healthcare. The specialists of the PT/OT department seek to help individuals to recover from disease, physical injury and/or surgery, and to assist them in performing everyday activities to the best of their abilities.
Physical Therapy
A referral to Physical Therapy will initiate an evaluation that is the first step in an individualized treatment plan to reach a patients maximal recovery and functional outcomes.
To achieve the goals of the patient’s treatment plan, the therapist will utilize a variety of treatment tools and programs, which may include the following:
- Flexibility and strengthening exercises
- Balance and fall reduction training
- Pain reduction programs
- Electrotherapy procedures
- Patient education instructions
- Manual therapy and massage techniques
- Gait and coordination training
- Womens’s Health program interventions
Occupational Therapy
The goal of Occupational Therapy is to provide patients with the skills and ability to perform everyday activities in their environment at the highest level of function. An Occupational Therapist will initially evaluate the patient and then develop a plan to achieve the goals of the patient.
Interventions may include:
- Patient education
- Functional mobility skills
- Adaptive equipment assessment and training
- Family and caregiver instruction
- Assessment of cognitive and perceptual abilities
- Individualized instruction in performance of daily living skills
- Safety recommendations for home environment
