Cortrosyn is given according to protocol. Order Cortrosyn from Pharmacy.

Draw 2nd specimen at 30 minutes after dose.

Draw 3rd specimen at 60 minutes after dose.

Albumin is decreased in these conditions: nephrotic syndrome, starvation, myelomas, cirrhosis of liver, major infections, surgical and accidental trauma, exudative enteropathy, eclampsia, uremia, acute infectious hepatitis, severe congestive heart failure, mesenteric lymphatic diseases and idiopathic hypoalbuminemia.

	Use:
	Ethanol is the most common toxic substance encountered in medico-legal cases. It may be ordered by the doctor (medical) or a police officer (Alcohol-State). Toxic levels may result in a coma.

Inpatient -	2ml arterial blood in heparinized syringe on ice.
Outpatient -	2ml arterial blood in heparinized syringe on ice.
Transport/Storage -	On ice.
Remarks -	Done at Grant County, North and South Units only. Transport to lab within 15 minutes, record O2 level.
Unacceptable Conditions -	Venous specimen
Stability -	On ice 15 minutes.

Use:

To monitor patients on oxygen therapy. Results depend on both lung perfusion and proper heart function.

Comments:

Test includes: pH, pCO2, pO2, HCO3, total CO2, O2 sat & base excess. Note: Label syringe with the patients type and amount of oxygen ie. room air, percentage or liters of 02 and vent, mask, nasal canula, etc.
